Raspberries, the most popular one among the berries, are wonderfully delicious and are rich sources of vitamins, minerals and chemicals that are essential for optimum health. This small shrub belongs to Rosaceae family. Though native to the Europe, berries are cultivated widely in many regions around the world.

The calorie and fat content in raspberries is very low. However, they are rich sources of antioxidants and dietary fiber. Phenolic flavonoid phytochemicals such as ellagic acid, anthocyanins, salicylic acid, kaempferol, catechins, pelargonidins, cyanidins, gallic acid and quercetin are very high in this fruit. Fresh raspberries contain high level of vitamin C, a powerful natural antioxidant. Consumption of vitamin C rich fruits will be helpful for your body to fight against infectious agents, scavenge harmful free radicals and counter inflammation.

This fruit is also a rich source of vitamin A and E. It also contains several other health promoting antioxidants such as B carotene, zea xanthin and lutein. It is a good source of magnesium, iron, copper, manganese and potassium.
