The next-gen M5 of BMW is expected to make its production within the next few years. The engineers of BMW have already started working on M5 sedan. Compared to the driver-focused predecessors, the present 5 series of BMW has been criticized widely by media and public due to its extreme softness. Therefore, BMW engineers are working on introducing a sport back sedan. This seventh generation 5 will have up to 225 pounds weight, which is lower than current model. It is assumed that new carbon-fiber intensive modular platform will be used for riding the2018 BMW M5. Though the final design of this car has not been locked, just like the existing models, the 2018 BMW M5 will come with elongated headlights. It is also assumed that the next gen M5 will have xDrive.

The new M5 may retain its current 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8. But, the power may grow slightly from 560 horsepower mill of current model. However, BMW is planning to make big changes in its M5's drivetrain. All wheel drive is the other important feature of this new car. It is also speculated that the M5 will borrow some of the specifications of its 7-series including autonomous driving and gesture controls. The rear wheel drive of the new car may be standard, but AWD will be on the menu. The new car will be manufactured by using lots of aluminum and carbon fiber.

It is assumed that the price of this car will be under $98,000. The starting price of 2016 M5 is $93,600 MSRP. So, it is assumed that the future car will not be too much higher. At the same time, the xDrive variant will be closer to $100,000 mark. So, it will be almost as expensive as Audi RS7 and E63 AMG S. There is no clarification regarding the launch date of 2018 BMW M5 xDrive, however, it is assumed that it will be launched 2018.
